KINGSTON KIDS
TORONTO EAST

Building Confidence, Self-Esteem and Friendships!

Kingston Kids provides an inclusive and supportive environment for social and emotional growth and mental wellness of all children.

Is your child struggling throughout their school day? Does your child struggle playing with others? Does your child need to work on their flexibility, perseverance, self control, self esteem, Independence, regulation, perspective taking, and/or self awareness?

At Kingston Kids our goal is to help each child grow these skills in order to feel confident and successful in their daily interactions.

Welcome to the KK Family!

Kingston Kids runs a holistic program which draws on the principals of understanding behaviour (discovering the ‘why’), using developmental approaches, relationship developmental intervention, and collaborative frameworks.
Kingston Kids is run by staff with over 20 years of experience working with, and parenting, children with different learning styles, sensory needs and lagging skills .

Kingston Kids was established in the fall of 2020, during Covid, as an option for in-person learning and a space for social interaction to support the emotional wellness of children.

Kingston Kids classes and camps support a wide range of skills including: responsibility, perseverance, self-control, self esteem, collaboration, cooperation, independence, emotional regulation, resilience, patience, bravery and so much more

Our classes/camps are successful because we teach in the moment. Teaching in the moment, when challenges arise, helps to embed skills naturally for social-emotional and personal growth.  ‘In the moment’ experiences allow us to support each child individually through their feelings of uncertainty, unpredictability, anxiety, disappointment, and other hard feelings.  Due to the intimate nature of our environment each child can move through their own feelings in a safe and supportive way, knowing they are allowed to express their emotions freely.

Social Skills Classes

Our social skills classes offer a fun and safe space for children to learn self regulation, collaboration and
social communication. (and much more!)

We run our classes with 6 (or fewer) children and three therapists.
Each term consists of approx 15 classes X $160 (per class).  We believe that children receive the most benefit from coming twice a week as it helps create social connections and enables them to keep up with the curriculum. We also recommend committing to the class for two terms, minimum, to keep the momentum and ensure we are solidifying skills.

The following are the prerequisite skills needed for our social skills classes:
- intermediate social communication skills, so that we can support further conversational and requesting skills

Please note that schools often support and encourage children attending our classes.  We find that many children who attend welcome the break from school, the change of scenery, and a safe place to learn skills and push through challenges.

Summer
Camp

Offering Summer social skills camp for children in grades JK-Gr4. You can pick from six offered weeks in the summer. We will group children based on age and/or ability.

Much like our classes, our social skills camps work on skills such as: flexibility, responsibility, perseverance, self-control, self esteem, collaboration, cooperation, independence, emotional regulation, resilience, patience, bravery and so much more

We offer supported theme-based play activities, a walk to Adam Beck playground and crafts and sensory experiences. We run with no more than 6 children and 2-3 staff/therapists.

This is a half day camp as it is quite intensive and children are usually socially exhausted.  We recommend a less social afternoon for the children after they leave.

FAQs

  • Your child does not need a diagnosis to attend classes or camps. Many children who attend KK have some social, emotional or behavioural challenge in the school environment and find our supportive space ideal for skill building.

  • No, we do not offer after school classes as we believe that children are socially exhausted by the end of the day. We run during school hours to offer a break from the larger social pressures of school. Many children welcome the quieter, smaller space by the afternoon.

No, we do not offer weekend classes as we are all parents ourselves and want to spend time at home.

  • The following are the prerequisite skills needed for our social skills classes:

    - intermediate social communication skills, so that we can support further conversational and requesting skills

-attending skills in order to participate in group time to discuss social/emotional themes.

-showing interest in being social with peers; preferring to be with the group

-tolerance to demand; displaying manageable aggressive behavior that will not need 1:1 support for extended periods

  • If you receive the one time funding then you can use this for class or camp. If you have moved into the new autism funding model, we are now accepting OAP funding for Level 1 ASD. We have a limited number of spaces available for OAP funded families under the supervision of a Registered Behaviour Analyst, BCBA.

Testimonials

Kingston Kids has been amazing for our son. He’s finishing his year in SK and is now able to spend full days at school without assistance. The KK staff are incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. They have been rocks for us.”

I'm so grateful that we found Kingston Kids. My son loved it and it really helped with his confidence and behaviour. I was always amazed at the quality of the programming. Tina, Beth, and Michelle are all smart, experienced, and go above and beyond to do what's right for the kids. It's a gem in the ASD support world.

— Parent

We wanted to share that the teachers have mentioned numerous times how much our son has progressed socially and emotionally. He’s expressing himself more, open to others opinions, and takes credit for his actions! We owe a lot of this to you. We appreciate you all very much”

Kingston Kids March break camp was fantastic! The programming was creative and engaging - my son was so excited to go each day. He made steady improvement over the course of the week with his self-regulation. He has already been asking to go back! We are so thankful we found this program.

Kingston Kids has been life changing for my daughter. My daughter has improved her social skills, self confidence, self regulation and imagination, all well having so much fun with her friends and the staff. The convince of the staff picking up the kids a couple afternoons during the week is so helpful, and gives my daughter a much needed break from school. I highly recommend KK for any kids needing additional support in a loving and caring environment. Thank you so much Tina, Beth and Michelle
